With EVE Frontier, CCP ventures into uncharted territory, leveraging well-known but bleeding edge technologies in a new and innovative way. All in-game assets are non-fungible tokens (NFT), and the game’s currency is a cryptocurrency. EVE Vault provides an overview of holdings and transactions in a manner similar to an online banking platform. Transactions and ownership are recorded on a blockchain.

CCP needed to design and develop an interface for trading in-game items, on the same timeline as the game itself. Players needed to be able to conduct transactions both inside and outside the game.

CCP enlisted a product development team from Kolibri for the project. Game development expertise was not required. The team focused on user expectations for EVE Vault and the underlying technology. The team worked relentlessly to develop a simple version of the wallet, refining it further after each playtest of the game.

The UI is developed as an app for iOS and Android, along with a web version with a Chrome extension that can be used both inside and outside the game. The interface is based on OneKey, which is open-source. Kolibri and CCP completely redesigned the original solution's user interface to support the goals and player experience in EVE Frontier.

The design is user-friendly and accessible, simplifying transactions involving technically complex items, while seamlessly integrating the game's aesthetic into a well-crafted interface.
